POST-COLONIAL SILLA

This seat is a reaction to the indoctrination of the canon for colonial standards of beauty. A meditation on reimagining a language that is without hierarchy,  acknowledges oppression, something that cannot be predetermined in judgement. A language tracing the visions of my ancestors, one that has not been seen or has been forgotten. Listening to the wood, to old methods of crafting, being one with the tools and not having a plan. It is at once a seat and sculpture.

This piece accompanied my final thesis exhibition.

Currently being exhibited at Pratt Institute’s Myrtle Hall Gallery until May 2025.
Selected piece for Pratt Institute’s archival catalogue.
